Walked past this window art on my way to @rookerymacon for lunch in downtown Macon today.

Still pooped from yesterday’s ride, all Emma wanted to do is nap in the sun. Made it to the bottom of the stairs and she decided this was a good spot. After a few minutes I convinced her to keep moving. We made it to a patch of grass about 25ft away where she continued her sunbath. Too bad my patio doesn’t get any exposure for her to do this while I’m away at work.

Went on a 120 mi Sunday morning ride with 3 new biker friends. We were the slowpokes of the bunch but they were very considerate of our limitations. Saw some beautiful scenery. We hope to do this ride again maybe when it isn’t so hot.

March 23, 2017. Emma’s 7th birthday was bittersweet. It marked 7 years of joyous companionship and the discovery of a quarter-sized tumor on her chest.

It is often said that dogs are family, but those words ring cliché and fall flat when describing my relationship with Emma. How could I not give her a fighting chance? How could I not for my own sake? Our best hope for remission was in surgery and a costly 19-visit radiation plan.

Life is fleeting and the years finite, but 7 is too soon to have to say goodbye. In theory, we say “no cost is too high” for our loved ones, but in practice, with healthcare there is a monetary cost, and it is often high.
